- Whipped shea butter- Haven't found the right twisting product yet? Why not make your own whipped shea butter? All you need is to go to your local whole foods or beauty supply store and you are own your way. When purchasing shea butter make sure it is 100% raw shea butter. That should be its only ingredient. Also make sure it is the white one and not yellow. The yellow shea butter might say 100% but it has dye in it that will break down the properties of the raw shea butter. Next find out what your favorite natural oils are. You have so many to choose from. I like to use either coconut oil or jojoba oil but don't limit yourself. Find out what works for YOUR hair. I also like to use aloe vera gel to balance the pH level of the product which will help with the porosity of your hair (we'll talk about that in another post). Next gather all your products in a bowl and get out your mixer. You can use all your shea butter but you only need about 1/3 cup of what ever oil(s) you choose and about 3-4 squirts of aloe vera gel. You will need to whip the products until it has an icing like consistency, it might look good enough to eat but don't!! While making any hair or body product at home make sure to mix them in something you won't be using to cook with. & The good thing about natural butters is they double as body butter so enjoy:)
- Avocado pre poo- A lot of people have no clue what a pre poo is so I'm going to tell you. Pre pooing your hair is basically providing intense moisture so after you shampoo it is not stripped from all the natural oils leaving it dry and stiff. Performing regular pre poo treatments will also help to remove heavy product build up on the scalp. For this treatment all you need is the meat from 1 avocado. 1/4 cup of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of honey. Mix all the ingredients together until smooth. Apply to your hair and let sit for about 30-45 minutes. Rinse out and then shampoo as usual. You will notice that your hair will be extremely soft.
- Protein deep conditioner- okay this one might be good enough to eat. All you need is 2 egg whites, 1/2 cup of greek yogurt, 3 tables spoons of olive oil. I like to use greek yogurt because I found that it had the highest amount of protein. First beat the egg whites until nice and frothy. Then combine all your ingredients together. Apply to your hair and leave in for 30 minutes. Rinse out and always follow with a regular moisturizing conditioner.
- Cocktail- making your own cocktail to detangle or give your hair some moisture is super easy. Make sure you have a spray bottle. All you need is your favorite leave in, oils, and water. The cocktail should be about 80 parts water and 20 parts conditioner and oils. This will able you to detangle your hair or spritz hair before style and it will also allow you to stretch you conditioner.
These are just my favorite things to use but the recipes are endless. What are your favorite homemade concoctions? leave recipes in the comment section

i have an issue with putting raw honey in my hair...how does it feel?
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with it as long as it is mixed with an oil. It rinses right out and leaves your hair extremely shiny.
